A Sophisticated Study

I felt privileged to encounter such a beautiful antique bookcase to work into my design. I was careful to ensure its elevated position as a focal point of the library.

The goblet-headed curtains and recovered antique chairs sat effortlessly on the Persian rug, beckoning visitors to take a seat and delve into one of the family's prized antique books.

Warmth and Elegance

This room was part of remodelling The Rosary, reported to be the second oldest house in Richmond.

The client's love of Scotland guided me directly to the tartan fabric and black suedes. The log fire and secret bookcase completed this timeless and somewhat magical scheme.

Boys' Room

This room was created by remodelling both the architecture and interior design elements, housing the audio visual equipment, warming the room and ensuring that the bar was both contemporary and practical.

A Stylish Home Cinema

This TV room was fitted with a state-of-the-art audio-visual system from Bang & Olufsen.

The box-framed black and white prints of classical female actresses adds a refreshing twist to the typical style of a home cinema.

The polished red coffee table is accentuated by the cushions on the Andrew Martin nubuck suede modular sofa, perfect for lounging on and watching a movie.

A Quiet Retreat

This first floor room with impressive architectural detailing lent itself perfectly to the inclusion of a small library and study.

Our client's main study was on the ground floor; however, this smaller room allowed him to store his many precious books. The writing desk sat beautifully in front of the arched window and looked out over the sweeping driveway.

The symmetry of the room enhanced the peace and stillness of the intimate area, offering the perfect place to quietly sit and read.

Oriental Dining

The Clients' love of Oriental food inspired this table setting. The ebony-look chopsticks and vogue square plates and bowls were carefully placed, accentuating the linear lines of the table. The green glassware was added to reflect the design's colour scheme.

The large dining room allowed enough space for a 10-person besoke dining table with an astez pedestal and mirrored centre. The chairs were also bespoke and covered in a Baker fabric complementing the deep Walnut finish. The proportions of the room also enabled us to incorporate bold designer wallpaper by Zoffany.

The floor-to-ceiling windows were given shutters as opposed to curtains, offering a clean crisp look whilst helping to diffuse the natural daylight. The tablescape was put together using carefully selected Villeroy & Boch porcelain and Conran glassware.

A Stylish Sideboard

This bespoke sideboard had a Wenge finish and tasteful chrome brassware. The impressive nickle lamps positioned on either side draw the eye up to show off the limited edition sepia prints, presented in bronzed mirrored frames.

Seating for Twelve

This dining room, with French doors leading to the landscaped gardens, was a room of cubic proportions, lending itself perfectly to the 12-person round table we chose.

Chocolate brown velvet was used to upholster the chairs, which were finished with silver studding.

The floral centrepiece filled the room with summer scents and the opulent crystal chandelier, centred above, gave the room a regal finish.

Setting the Table

This Executive home in Burwood Park, Weybridge, provided an impressive blank canvas for us to work with.

The bespoke table was accentuated with polished metal and purple tones. Individual Hydrangea stems in mirrored globe vases adorned each place setting, along with taupe napkins and candles, silver rimmed porcelain and purple glassware.

Mayfair Apartment

The formal dining room in this Mayfair apartment is adorned with hand blocked wallpaper by Coles, and the Damask from Garin is decorated with hand sewn crystals, reflecting the glimmer of the stunning chandelier.

An Unusual Opportunity

This remarkable vaulted kitchen, built in 1650, sits under the Thames in Richmond.

Wide, solid oak floorboards, hand made cabinets, neo-absolute granite surfaces and a Belfast sink complete the unusual design.

A Complementary Scheme

This property, belonging to a successful local businessman and advisor to the House of Commons, boasted a large kitchen/breakfast room which allowed for these beautiful Water Hyacinth chairs that we had shipped over from Thailand.

The dark wooden shutters were chosen to complement the furniture and state of the art designer kitchen.

An Executive Kitchen

We were thrilled to have been commissioned to take on this project situated in the exclusive Burwood Park in Weybridge.

This executive home came complete with a bespoke designer kitchen featuring integrated appliances, fine wooden units and granite worktops. The weighty curtains frame the French doors, and Porta Romana ceiling shades suspended over the kitchen island soften the linear lines of the room, adding warmth.

The Orangery Kitchen

After The Orangery was built, a new kitchen was installed and a breakfast table for eight positioned comfortably between the two areas.

The kitchen furniture extended into the Orangery, bringing harmony and fluidity to the whole scheme. The room was south-facing, so that sunshine flooded the entire area throughout the day, resulting in a stunning living space for the family.

Rising to the Challenge

This project proved to be wonderfully challenging, as the listed building was subject to a protected interior.

I introduced a little contemporary twist with the use of duck egg blue and taupe, but kept the accessories rather more traditional, aiming to achieve a balanced and appropriate interior for the client's beautiful new home.

No Shortage of Seating

The brief for this project was to seat at least 10 around the family plasma TV.

Furnishing such a lovely house was a pleasure; the bespoke wool rug brought a lovely warm feeling to the large room, with Nina Campbell fabrics & Porta Romana lamps tastefully included to complete the design.

Surrey Townhouse

We were pleased to assist this Surrey based property developer in staging his new-build townhouse.

Carefully selected pieces were installed, including Andrew Martin furniture coupled with bespoke sofas and antique prints. The clean look was specifically chosen so as to appeal to as many potential buyers as possible.

The Orangery

The Orangery is a beautiful light-filled room we designed and built, which led into the beautiful country kitchen and breakfast area.

Wide oak flooring gave the project a warm lovely atmosphere that encouraged family gatherings.

Personal Touches

A selection of the clients most cherished photographs were professionally enlarged and framed and then used to create a dramatic and asymmetric picture wall above the bureau.

In creating this relaxed seating area, we were able to offer the client a perfect selection of designer fabrics, made to measure curtains and glass and chrome accessories sourced from a wide range of our valued suppliers.

A Successful Commission

We were asked to help the owners of this period Coach House revive their ageing property and transform it into a beautiful family home.

The elegant colouring of this scheme allowed the Andrew Martin furniture and Peter Arnold prints from The Trowbridge Gallery to speak for themselves. Accented using chrome accessories and plush silk cushions, the design of the living space was successfully completed and the owners were thrilled with the end result.

The Coach House

We were delighted to be commissioned to work on this period Coach House in leafy Surrey.

An oversized Andrew Martin clock acts as the focal point in this design, reflecting the material of the existing wrought iron spiral staircase. Neutral tones throughout create a soft and demure appearance.

Exclusive Designs

This room was furnished with Churchill styled sofas, Milano chairs and oriental-inspired linen press exclusive to April Hamilton.

The Linen press, designed by our senior designer Rosemary Ridgway, subsequently appeared in Homes & Gardens magazine but was incorrectly attributed to White Allom Studio (formerly Hutson Designs).

A Broad Canvas

This living space was commissioned by a successful local business man and advisor to the House of Commons. We wanted to create something entirely appropriate to his sophisticated and elegant lifestyle.

The client left us with a set of valuable watercolour paintings by artist Henry Small, and asked if we would incorporate them into the scheme for the drawing room.

The double aspect room with a large open fireplace was very well proportioned, and allowed for some large pieces of elegant bespoke furniture.

We took inspiration from the clien't watercolours to form the basis of our design.

A Piece of History

The Rosary, circa 1650, is reported to be the second oldest house in Richmond.

We chose to use luxurious velvets and tactile chenille with antique wide oak floors to grace the bedroom in this elegant historical house.

A Guest Bedroom

This Guest bedroom was one of many in this period property in Esher, Surrey. The sloping ceiling and intimate proportions made the room feel cosy and welcoming to its visitors.

Feminine hues of cream and duck egg blue and a mixture of fabrics were used to add warmth and depth to the otherwise understated design.

The half tester above the bed frames the headboard and pillows like curtaining. The painted bedside tables, crystal lamps and dainty French chair all help characterise the elegant design.

Room with a View

This remodelled bedroom, having removed the ceiling and introduced French oak beams, lent itself to the centrally positioned four poster bed, majestically commanding the most advantageous views of the landscaped gardens.

Sophisticated and Elegant

We were delighted to have been asked to design the bedroom of this successful local business man and advisor to the House of Commons. We wanted to create a theme that reflected his sophisticated and elegant lifestyle.

This master bedroom was equipped with en-suite, steam room and separate dressing room. The Vermicelli quilting bedcover in Manuel Canovas silk was custom-made to fit the King-size Vi-Spring bed. The walls were adorned with a large damask print wallpaper by Osborne & Little.

A Playful Touch

A striking mannequin is playfully used to display pieces of jewellery collected by the client on her worldwide travels.

Resting nearby is a bespoke armoire which was purposefully customised by April Hamilton's senior designer to house the TV and provide that 'ever sought after' extra storage.

A Designer's Dream Realised

This contemporary yet classical bathroom design was remodelled back in the spring of 2000, and yet it remains a favourite among many of my clients and potential clients alike.

It is carefully balanced, allowing the beautiful symmetry of the design to be fully appreciated. The 'his and hers' vanity units are over 4 metres long on either side of the room, allowing ample storage with a mixture of drawers and cupboard space. They each lead effortlessly into walk-in dressing rooms.

The painted timber frames facilitate a seamless length of crome corian with underslung porcelain basins and traditional cross-head monobloc taps by Lefroy Brookes.

The double shower and spacious jacuzzi bath sit majestically in the centre of the room, and the backdrop of integrated Lutron lighting and an impressive audio-visual system fully support the luxurious experience of bathing.

Intimate Yet Striking

When we were offered the commission to completely renovate this grand house in Surrey, we were delighted to accept - what interior designer wouldn't?

The elegant and sophisticated design of this bedroom has been given a modern edge with an injection of silver and fuscia. The opulent Osborne & Little fabrics and stylish George Smith sofa create an intimate area within the room to sit and relax.

The walls are adorned with limited edition prints by the talented artist Peter Arnold and a striking pewter 'hurricane' mirror.

Remodelling the Old Rectory

The Old Rectory was remodelled in 2003. My client wanted to retain most original elements of the house, as it dated back to the mid-16th century and is reported to be the second oldest house in Richmond. The bathroom as you see it now was originally a bedroom, which was later converted to a utilitarian bathroom in avocado. This was not exactly an interior designer's dream...

We had brought the mirror from a previous property that I had designed and used as the inspiration for the new scheme. I wanted to create a luxurious contemporary bathroom within this listed building, which meant incorporating panelled walls, one of which I used to house a wet screen - a relatively new option, along with the LEDS in the floor. These are entirely safe, cool to touch and with a lovely warm glow, bringing a relaxed ambience to bathing.

The marble tiles - a special order - were set diagonally and laid on underfloor heating. Both the vanity unit and wardrobes were timber with painted frames and mirrored back panels, and the same marble as the floor tiles was used on the counter top.

I couldn't resist the contemporary candle scones - candlelight is positively magical and in perfect harmony with the integrated B&O system that filtered through the entire house.

A Romantic Bathroom

This romantically inspired bathroom design proved to be extremely successful. The client's property, a lavish Edwardian house situated high in the Surrey Hills, was worthy of the generous budget assigned to the project.

The chocolate ceramic wall tiles interspersed with polished chrome strip looked striking against the contrasting white enamel of the modern suite and dark wooden vanity unit. The room was effectively accessorised with chrome brassware, glass lanterns, white coral and red roses.

The Old Rectory

The Old Rectory, which nestles quietly in the Sussex countryside, was a complete refurbishment of 33 rooms.

The project was carried out within the client's brief in less than a year.

Executive Style

This traditional London-style entrance hall was in fact the entrance to five executive apartments in Sunbury.

The conversion of the house took just ten months, and all of the apartments were under contract before the project had been completed.

A Deconversion

This thatched cottage was originally 2 apartments, which were restored into a quaint and picturesque dwelling for my client in Esher.

The landscape garden was illuminated to provide a stunning view from the master bedroom's balcony.

Artistic Licence

This design was completed almost 10 years ago, but the faux Ashlar block painted walls have comfortably stood the test of time.

My client granted me a broad artistic licence, and so a devilish mouse was created over the doorway, no doubt en route to the cheese upon the table.

Burwood Park

Set within Burwood park, Walton Upon Thames, this beautiful Georgian house was to become home for a lovely South African family. My brief was to make it, quite simply, a home.

The client's words:
"You have done a wonderful job for me, Rosie. I love all the rooms that you have done, and believe me, everyone who visits says it is just the loveliest relaxed style."

A Glamorous Entrance

The wonderfully glamorous entrance hall in this Mayfair apartment was created by carving a coffered ceiling over the central table, laying a floor of pure marble and reflecting the Baroque drawing room in the large antique mirror, flanked by Empire lamps.

Brinton Carpets

William Brinton is the world's largest carpet manufacturer, having woven carpets and rugs for over 220 years. One of my designs is currently on display at their showroom in Chelsea Harbour.

We make a formidable team!

The Baronial Hall

The Baronial hall in this beautiful country home originally only featured the ground floor window, but by introducing the 1st floor window and removing one room upstairs we created a galleried landing, flooding the hall with light.

Knoll sofas, antique chairs & bespoke crocodile leather tables lent themselves perfectly to these relaxing and convivial surroundings.

The Rosary

The courtyard at The Rosary in Richmond was completely overhauled, introducing various materials and planting and offering breakfast dining in the lower section.

The weatherproof furniture at street level offered more formal dining and a view into the library.

Classical yet contemporary

The magnificent entrance to this elegant Georgian house on the Burwood Estate lent itself to the pink & chocolate silk curtains and rich velvet fabrics that the client welcomed into her home.

The wenge classical furniture gave it a comtemporary yet restrained style, leading into the living and dining rooms of the same hues, creating balance, harmony and fluidity throughout the ground floor.

Clare Hill

This entrance set in Clare Hill, Esher, was part of a complete remodelling of a thatched house.

The double doors and oak floors were solid, as indeed were the flagstones, and the handrail was the delightful work of a trompe l'oeil artist.

The selection of illuminated French dungeon keys added interest and provided a unique talking point for visitors.
